1. Click on the Big Blue "E" 2. Internet Connection Wizard window opens 3. Select the 2nd option "I have an Existing Internet Account" and Click "NEXT" 4. Select the 1st option that says "SELECT THIS OPTION IF YOU ARE ACCESSING THE INTERNET USING AN INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER OR A LOCAL AREA NETWORK" Then Click "NEXT" 5. Window opens that is titled "SET UP YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION" Which method do you want to use to connect to the Internet? Select "Connect using my phone line" Then click the "NEXT" Button. 6. A window titled "Phone Number" will open and ask you to enter the phone number to dial to connect top your Internet service provider. DO NOT ENTER THE AREA CODE. Enter 285-5988 into the phone number field. DO NOT CHECK THE BOX THAT SAYS "Dial using area code and country code". Click the "NEXT" Button 7. A WINDOW TITLED "Username and Password" will open. Enter your username and password in the appropriate fields. THIS IS CASE SENSATIVE and MUST BE EXACT!! Click the "Next" Button. 8. A WINDOW TITLED "Advanced Settings" will open. When prompted to change the advanced settings, click the no box. Click the "NEXT" button/ 9. A window titled "DIAL UP CONNECTION NAME" will open. Delete out "connection to 285-5988 and Enter Cibola Internet Services in the field. Click the "NEXT" Button. 10. A window titled "SET UP YOUR INTERNET MAIL ACCOUNT" will open. You will be prompted to set up an internet mail account now. Check the "YES" box. Click the "NEXT" Button. 11. In the next window that opens enter your name as you would like to appear when people receive mail from you. (John Smith) Click the "NEXT Button. 12. A window will open that will prompt you for your email address. Enter your email address in the format of username@7cities.net. An error message will say the specified email address does not appear to be valid use anyway (yes). 13. A window will open titled EMAIL SERVER NAME. Make sure that the incoming mail server is a POP 3 Server, NOT an IMAP Server. POP3 is the default setting for this field. In the field that says "INCOMING MAIL POP3 server" enter mail.7cities.net In the field that says "OUTGOING MAIL SMTP server" enter mail.7cities.net Click the "NEXT" button. 14. You will get 2 error messages. The first one says that the specified pop 3 server does not appear to be a valid server do you want to use it anyway? Click yes. The second error message will say the specified SMTP server does not appear to be a valid server. Do you want to use it anyway? Click yes. 15. A window will open up asking you for your Internet mail logon. In the account name field enter your user name. In the password field enter your password. Both of the fields are case sensitive. The password field will shadow back to your screen asterisks instead of the password that you enter. This is to protect your password from those that should not see it. Make sure the box that says, "log on using your pop account name is checked. DO NOT CHECK THE BOX THAT SAYS LOG ON USING SECURE PASSWORD AUTHENTICATION. Click the NEXT button. 16. In the next window leave the friendly name as mail.7cities.net as it is. Click the NEXT button. 17. The next window will prompt you to set up an Internet news account. We suggest this only for advanced users. For specifics on setting this account up call Cibola INTERNET. If you are a new user we recommend clicking the "NO" button to not set up a news account. Click the "NEXT Button. 18. In the next window you will be prompted to set up an Internet directory service. We recommend not setting this up to avoid getting unsolicited email. Click the "NO" button under setting up an Internet Directory Service. Click the "NEXT" button. 19. The next window completes the configuration. CLICK THE "Finish" Button. 20. A dial up connection box will appear. Click the "WORK OFFLINE" button. You will get an error message stating "Unable to retrieve web page in offline mode" This is normal at this time. 21. THE WEB BROWSER IS NOW OPENED Along the top click on the word "VIEW" Go down to the Internet options selection which is the last thing listed and click on "Internet Options". 22. In the options window there are 6 tabs across the top. In the first tab titled "GENERAL" there is a field titled "Home PAGE" Single click the address http://home.microsoft.com to highlight it in blue. Then, use the backspace key to delete this address from the field. Enter www.7cities.net in the home page field. 23. Click on the connection tab. Make sure that the button "Connect to the Internet using a modem" is checked. Go down to the next box titled "Proxy server" and check the little white box. The address and port fields will turn from grey to white. In the address field enter cache.7cities.net In the Port field enter the numbers 3128. Click on the Advanced settings button to the right of the port field. 24. In this window there is a list of servers (HTTP, SECURE, FTP, GOPHER, and SOCKS) At the bottom of this list is a white box that is checked titled "use the same proxy server for all protocols. Uncheck this box. 25. Delete all entries from the secure and socks line including port numbers. Click OK at the bottom of this window. 26. Go to the programs tab. You should have OUTLOOK EXPRESS in the mail and news field. IF you do not have OUTLOOK Express in the mail field, click on the down arrow at the end of the field, and select Outlook Express if it is an option offered. If it is not offered, contact CIBOLA Internet Services. 27. Click the apply button at the bottom of this window. The click the OK Button. 28. Make sure the browser is open to full screen by clicking the box at the top right of the window between the line and the X. If you have 2 small boxes overlapping in the middle choice, your browser is already open to full screen. 29. On the toolbar across the top of the browser on the right is an Icon titled MAIL. Click on the Mail icon and scroll down to read mail. Click on Read Mail. 30. The mail program will browse for a place to store your mail on the hard drive. Select the default setting by clicking "OK" 31. The mail program may try to import mail messages and address book. Cancel this operation. You will get an error message stating that the import was not performed yet. Are you sure that you want to exit the wizard? Click Yes. 32. A window may open that may prompt you to select a connection to dial. Click on the down arrow to the right of Cibola Internet Services and select Do not dial a connection. Check the box below this field that says, "SET AS THE DEFAULT START UP CONNECTION." Click on the OK button in this window. 33. The outlook express window is now open. Click on the word "TOOLS" across the top and go down to Accounts and click on accounts. 34. Click on the properties button on the right side of this window. Enter your email address in the reply to address field at the bottom of this window. Click ok. You will get an error message stating that the specified reply to address does not appear to be valid. Do you want to use it anyway? Click yes. 35. Close the "Internet Accounts" window. 36. Click on the word "TOOLS" again. Go down to the "options" and click options. 37. In the general tab, check the2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th box. 38. In the SEND TAB change the mail sending format from HTML to Plain text . 39. Make sure all of the boxes at the bottom of the SEND tab are checked. 40. Close down the options window. 41. Close down OUTLOOK EXPRESS. 42. CLOSE Down the Browser. 43. Double click on the Blue E Internet Explorer. You may be prompted to connect or stay offline. Select "CONNECT" 44. Click on the
connect button, and the computer should dial up. |
